HOURTOBILL
About

One person builds this.

Who

Peter Hallander. One person, writing the code, answering the email and writing the articles on this site. There is no team, no investors and nobody in sales, because there is no sales team to have. If you write to support@hourtobill.com you are writing to me.

I do consulting work and bill it by the hour. That is the whole basis of any authority I have here: I am the customer of this product before I am the seller of it, and the parts I got wrong I got wrong on my own invoices first.

Why this exists

The end of every month was the same twenty minutes. Export a CSV out of a time tracker, paste it into a spreadsheet, add it up, retype it into an invoice, and hope the total matched what the client thought they had agreed. The tracking was never the hard part. The reconstruction afterwards was.

So HourToBill is that one loop and nothing else. A timer with a client attached, and at month end a PDF with the hours itemised. You can run the whole thing without an account and take a real invoice away with you.

What it deliberately is not

It has no team seats, no projects, no proposals, no CRM pipeline and no integrations directory. Those are real needs and other products serve them well. Adding them here would make the one thing this does worse, and the articles in field notes are mostly me arguing that case with myself in public.

How the articles get written

From the work, not from a keyword list. Every article on this site is about something I hit while building or while billing: what rounding does to a day of six-minute entries, what a proposal-shaped tool costs somebody who agreed their rate on a phone call. Where I quote a competitor’s price I link to their own pricing page so you can check it, because prices change and I will not always notice.

If something on this site is wrong, tell me and I will fix it and say that I did. That is a cheaper policy than being careful.

Where it runs

The application is hosted in Europe and the database with it. Payment is handled by Polar, who are the merchant of record, so no card details ever reach me. The full detail is on the privacy page.
